Members of UN35 gathered in the back of the UN35 office for our monthly membership meeting. In addition to hearing updates about current events happening in the city from our Executive Committee (EC), elected officials, and general members, we heard from our EC candidates who were all re-elected by our voting members.
Heading towards the next electoral cycle, UN35 gathered in the back of the office — a mix of experienced members and new faces, many of whom joined the organization during our work for the mayoral race. After giving folks some time to introduce themselves to someone new, the facilitators shifted towards our internal elections for our Executive Committee.
Each candidate — all of whom were existing committee members — introduced themselves and reflected on their time spent on the committee. They shared excitement about the growth we’ve seen in UN35 in the past year, acknowledged shortfalls, and expressed their commitment to continue strengthening our organization. Voting membership re-elected all of the candidates to the EC: Aji Olayemi, Allison Pillar, Sandra Puebla (Chair), Joyce Brody (Treasurer), Levi Todd, Cesáreo Moreno, and Jonathan Nagy (Secretary).
The meeting then shifted to discussions around the current migrant crisis in our city, including some updates from Alderperson Carlos Ramirez Rosa and UN35 Chair Sandra Puebla, followed by discussion questions from our attending membership.
We had a short report back from all of our committees that have recently developed: Electoral, Fundraising, Media/Communications, Membership, and Political Education. All of them are still in their fledgling stages and are growing month by month.
The meeting ended with some announcements before volunteers dispersed to the petition season canvass launch in the front office immediately after.
