UN35 Endorses Anthony Quezada for 35th Ward Alderman Vacancy at Community Meeting

In a beautiful day of participatory democracy, UN35 members voted to endorse Cook County Commissioner Anthony Quezada to replace Carlos Ramirez-Rosa as our 35th ward alderman when he transitions to become CEO of the Chicago Park District on April 1. With over 150 neighbors present for testimonials and a question-and-answer session with candidates Mr. Quezada, Geary Yonker, and Daniel Tobon, members voted 86% in favor of candidate Anthony Quezada, indicating resounding support.

Following this special meeting, United Neighbors of the 35th Ward will issue a recommendation letter to the Mayor’s Civic Committee, sharing the sentiments of our community, and the strong support locally for Anthony Quezada. Alderman Rosa has committed to advocating for the community’s chosen candidate.

Commissioner Quezada spoke about the importance of UN35’s grassroots organizing model, and the integral role we’ve played in connecting and serving our neighbors. The COVID-19 crisis revealed deep fractures that already existed in our systems of care, and UN35 stepped up to the challenge and has continued growing its organization since.

Sunday’s event was a proud day for our organization – a show of strength behind the organizing we’ve done, and a springboard for our future work.
